Empowering youth to lead in diagnostics and healthcare.

DICA bridges the gap between academic training and real-world diagnostic practice — equipping the next generation of laboratory professionals with the skills, systems-awareness, and innovation mindset Africa's healthcare needs.

Our Mission

Bridging classroom learning with real diagnostic opportunity.

DICA (Diagnostic Integration and Career Accelerator) is a healthcare workforce development and diagnostic innovation platform focused on preparing the next generation of professionals for modern laboratory environments.

We address critical gaps within African diagnostic systems — particularly the disconnect between academic training, operational laboratory realities, and the growing demand for digitally enabled healthcare systems.

DICA does not repeat what universities already do. We bridge what they cannot: turning qualified graduates into confident, capable diagnostic professionals who can walk into any laboratory environment and make it better.

🌍 Agenda 2063 Alignment
Our Global Commitment

Accelerating Africa's future through the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

DICA is strategically aligned with the African Union's Agenda 2063 — "The Africa We Want" — and four core SDGs that anchor our work in global accountability and continental transformation.

SDG 3
Good Health & Well-being
Strengthening Health Systems
By producing skilled diagnostic professionals, DICA directly reduces disease burden, improves early detection, and strengthens laboratory systems that underpin quality healthcare delivery across Africa.
SDG 4
Quality Education
Closing the Skills Gap
DICA provides competency-based, industry-aligned education that bridges the gap between academic training and real-world diagnostic practice — ensuring graduates are work-ready and globally competitive.
SDG 8
Decent Work & Economic Growth
Creating Diagnostic Careers
Through accelerator programmes and employer partnerships, DICA creates pathways to meaningful employment, entrepreneurship, and economic participation for Africa's young diagnostic workforce.
SDG 17
Partnerships for the Goals
Building Strategic Alliances
DICA brings together healthcare institutions, academic partners, funders, and development organisations to co-create solutions — demonstrating the power of partnership in driving continental health transformation.

Together, these goals position DICA as a catalyst for Aspiration 1 (A prosperous Africa) and Aspiration 6 (An Africa whose development is people-driven) of the African Union's Agenda 2063 framework.

The Diagnostic Gap

The crisis is real. And it is urgent.

70%

Clinical decisions depend on laboratory results. When diagnostics fail, healthcare fails.

25%

Global Disease Burden. Africa carries over a quarter of the world's burden of disease.

Integrated programme streams taking participants from classroom knowledge to diagnostic confidence.

Our Programmes

A 12-week accelerator that changes careers.

🎓 12 Weeks · 6 Integrated Streams · Cohort-Based

Six integrated programme streams that take participants from classroom knowledge to diagnostic confidence — and beyond. Each stream is designed to complement the others, building a complete professional ready for the demands of modern diagnostics.

"Strengthening diagnostics is not only about improving laboratory technologies — it is about building a workforce capable of transforming the systems that deliver healthcare."

Diagnostic Integration and Career Accelerator

Nelisiwe is an experienced healthcare and research professional with over a decade of expertise in clinical laboratory science, research pathology, and HIV/AIDS management across public, private, and research sectors in South Africa.

She currently serves as Regional Technical Manager in one of the leading diagnostic Laboratories, leading strategic laboratory operations, quality management systems, and diagnostic innovation. She previously served as Medical Research Laboratory Manager at Wits Health Consortium, supporting international HIV and TB clinical research studies.

She holds an MBA in Healthcare Management (MANCOSA), a Postgraduate Diploma in HIV/AIDS Management (Stellenbosch University), a BTech Degree in Biomedical Technology (CPUT), NDIP Biomedical Technology(DUT) and is currently pursuing Public Health studies at the University of Pretoria.

Nelisiwe established DICA in 2026 after witnessing firsthand the gap between what universities teach and what laboratories actually need. DICA is her answer to a problem she refused to accept as inevitable.

🌍 SDG Commitment & Agenda 2063 Vision

DICA was founded with a clear mandate: to accelerate Africa's transformation through the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and the African Union's Agenda 2063. Every programme we run, every professional we train, and every partnership we forge is a deliberate step toward a continent where quality diagnostics are accessible, where young scientists thrive, and where African health systems lead — not lag — the world.

Through SDGs 3, 4, 8, and 17, DICA contributes to Aspiration 1 and Aspiration 6 of Agenda 2063 — building a prosperous, people-driven Africa where no patient is failed by a broken diagnostic system.
